Impressed by the beauty, Mann decided to build a summer house here, using the proceeds from winning the Nobel Prize in Literature the same year. He spent three summers (1930-1932) in his elegant villa, continuing to write his works while enjoying the view of the Curonian Lagoon through the window.
The house, now a memorial museum, stands on Mother-in-law Hill, showcasing a collection of photos, books, and documents reflecting Thomas Mann's life and works.
