It's one of the Livonian Order castles in Latvia, constructed by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword in the 13th century. Attaining Livonian status as the official residence of the order's masters, it stands as one of the most impressive castles in the Baltic States. Since 1949, the Cēsis History Museum has been housed here, attracting both tourists and locals.

Remarkably, the site also hosts Latvia's oldest brewery, "Cēsu Alus darītava," founded in 1878, with roots tracing back to the Livonian Order period. The Cēsis Castle Park, established in 1812, captures the romanticism of its era with winding footpaths, exotic plants, and a pond reflecting the castle's ruins.
